Follow these steps to activate and edit basic Zoom settings on macOS. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner or by searching for it in the Spotlight app. Select Zoom under Vision on the left menu. Choose Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom to use your keyboard only. Select Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom to use your keyboard combined with a mouse or trackpad to zoom in and out. From the Appearance tab, select the box next to one of three ways that the Zoom lens image will move while zoomed in:.

Set a magnification range to prevent images from becoming too large or too small when zoomed in or out. From the Controls tab, use the two slider scales to choose a minimum and maximum zoom range. Enlarge the size of the mouse cursor to make it easier to see when you use Zoom. Use the slider to adjust the size of the cursor. Whatever size you choose will remain even after you log out, restart, or shut down the device.

Zoom can be used on iOS devices as well, though the magnification range is smaller. It can magnify up to 15 times. You can use Zoom and VoiceOver screen reader simultaneously on your iOS device, but be aware that touch gestures could interfere with Zoom gestures. Toggle the Zoom button to the right to activate it.

Either way, when you're brought to your account page, you can click on the Resources tab at the top of your page to find the Zoom client you need. Pick your software Windows or Mac and download the Zoom client. Make sure your keep the client software updated. Not all updates are automatic, even if they fix security or privacy flaws. You may have to download some updates directly from the Zoom website opens in new tab.

You don't actually need to install anything to use Zoom on a desktop or laptop. All you need is a web browser. When you get the invitation to join a Zoom meeting, click on the meeting URL.

A new tab will open in your preferred browser, and if you have the desktop client app installed, the meeting will bounce over to the app. However, if you don't have the desktop client software, then the Zoom browser window will ask you to download it.

Ignore that suggestion and skip down to the fine print underneath: "If you cannot download or run the application, join from your browser. Click the highlighted text in "join from your browser" and you'll be presented with a Zoom meeting page. Sign in with your name and join the meeting. Once your Zoom app is downloaded to your device of choice, you'll need to know how to set up a Zoom meeting. Sign in to your account. At that time, you'll have the option to schedule a meeting. Simply click the "Schedule a New Meeting" button and decide when the meeting should be held, who will be attending, and more.

Once that's set, Zoom will give you login information for participants and the ability for users to log in via the app or on their phones. Interestingly, Zoom also comes with a quick sign-in feature for mobile users. So, if someone participating in your call doesn't have Zoom, they can quickly call the Zoom number and Zoom will automatically get them in by inputting their meeting ID and other information without any delay. If you get an invite from a Zoom user and you don't happen to be one, you can easily join via phone in the manner outlined above.

At times, Zoom might not work with some VPN services. Tip : The faster the internet, the better the Zoom experience. If your internet is slow, or you are downloading or uploading something or streaming a movie on another device connected to the same Wi-Fi, please consider stopping these during the Zoom call. If not, you might have to wait until things are fixed. Zoom needs a microphone, camera, and a few other permissions to work correctly and offer the full video conferencing experience.

For this, it is crucial to ensure that the app has the right permissions. After giving the necessary permission, quit the Zoom app and reopen it. Everything should work correctly now. Are you running other apps in the background like Skype, Discord , FaceTime, etc. If yes, please quit those apps.

Zoom may not be able to access the camera or microphone if another app is using it. Now type Activity Monitor and open this app. Finally, click Quit. In some instances, turning off Firewall may help with the proper working of Zoom.

Click Firewall. Next, click Turn Off Firewall.

There are different ways to join a Zoom meeting. For one, you can click on the link in the email, text, or calendar invite you received ahead of the meeting time. By doing so, the Zoom client opens and proceeds with joining you to the meeting. You can also choose the 'Join' button on the main Zoom page, then enter the meeting ID or personal link name. Either are mentioned in the invitation. You can join with video, audio, or both, and leave the meeting at any time.

In the Zoom client for Mac, you can share your screen as the host and record the meeting using the buttons on the bottom menu of an active meeting. You can also implement security settings, such as adding a waiting room. When activated, a waiting room is where visitors will go in Zoom first ahead of a meeting.

The host must allow each recipient to enter the actual meeting before joining. You can also use the built-in chatting feature to text everyone in the meeting. The feature is ideal for sharing links and other information. Bryan M. Wolfe is a staff writer at TechRadar, iMore, and wherever Future can use him.
